How is this different from Hotjar or Microsoft Clarity?
Three differences: (1) No cookies or third-party trackers — no consent banner required in most jurisdictions. Hotjar and Clarity require cookie consent. (2) Your visitor data never leaves our platform — no sharing with external analytics vendors. (3) Session recording, heatmaps, funnels, and uptime monitoring are in one dashboard, not spread across separate tools.
Do we need a cookie consent banner?
No. Our tracker is cookieless — it generates a visitor fingerprint without setting cookies or persistent identifiers. In most EU and UK jurisdictions, cookieless tracking that doesn’t use personal data doesn’t require consent under GDPR or ePrivacy. We recommend legal advice for your specific context, but our architecture is designed to minimize the consent requirement.
Is the session recording GDPR compliant?
Yes. Visitor IDs are anonymized, passwords and credit card fields are masked at capture (raw values never leave the browser), there is no cross-site tracking, and data retention is configurable. We support GDPR Article 17 right-to-erasure requests via a documented opt-out endpoint.
How much data do sessions take up?
Session replay files are lightweight — we record DOM mutations and user interactions, not video frames. A typical 5-minute session is 50–200KB. The Standard plan retains 90 days of sessions; the Pro plan retains 1 year. Storage is included in the plan price.
What counts as a session?
A real human visit that includes user interaction (click, scroll, form input), spans more than one page, or lasts at least 5 seconds. Bot traffic and silent single-page sessions under 5 seconds are excluded automatically. You’re billed on real sessions, not raw hits.
Can we share sessions with our design or dev team?
Yes. Any session can be bookmarked and shared via a link. The recipient doesn’t need a login. Session links include the full replay, annotated rage clicks, dead clicks, and console errors.
